Ann Lucille (Libby) Cahill

Ann Cahill passed away on the morning of November 14 at Maine Medical Center after a brief hospital stay.

Ann was born in Gray in 1934 to parents Harry and Lottie Libby and graduated from Pennell Institute, class of 1953.

Ann lived in may places in Southern Maine including Portland, South Portland, Waterville, Kennebunk, and also a short time in Arizona before returning to Gray for good in 1979. She worked at Standard Romper manufacturing children clothing, at several retail outlets as well as working as a housewife.

In early adult life Ann enjoyed traveling Maine and New England, camping, fishing and sewing. Later in life she was partly debilitated but enjoyed wildlife viewing, nature photography, writing poetry and spending time with family and friends.

Ann Cahill was interred on November 17 at the Libby Family Cemetery in Gray in a private service attended by about sixty family and friends.

Ann was predeceased by parents Harry and Lottie Libby, sister Mary Jane Merchant, first husband Frank Tozier and second husband Robert Cahill. She is survived by sisters Alice Ashley of Gray, Shirley Harriman of Kennebunobkport, Patricia Lord of Kennebunk, brother Lee Libby of Gray and son Marc Tozie of Gray, as well as many nieces, nephews and their children.

Memorial donations should be given to the cancer fund of your choice.

Russell Randall Goddard

Russell Randall Goddard, 51 of Aquilla Road died Sunday the 2nd of December at Maine Medical Center surrounded by his family and close friends.

He was born in Skowhegan, Maine October 7, 1956 the son of Robert R. Goddard, Jr. and Mildred Louise (Morrill) Goddard. He attended schools in Skowhegan and Yarmouth, graduating from Yarmouth High School in 1975. He attended what was then Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute and the Criminal Justice Academy graduating with a degree in Criminal Justice.

Upon his graduation, Russ worked as a reserve police officer for the Town of Yarmouth prior to being hired as a patrol deputy for the Cumberland County Sheriffs Department. Russ first served as a Deputy Sheriff in the Town of Harpswell, where he lived for several years. He was then promoted to the rank of Corporal and was a supervisor working out of the Gray area until his retirement in May of 1998. Russ also owned an ice cream shop in Gray Center for several years. After his retirement, Russ established Better Way Auto Sales in Gray which he continued to operate until his death.

Russ was very active in his community. He held many positions on the board of the Little Sebago Lodges, the association where he lived since 1984, was a substitute teacher and bus driver for SAD 15 for several years. He was very active in the Cumberland Lodge #12 and served as Master of the Lodge in 2002. He was also a member of the Boaz Royal Arch Chapter #72.

His special interests and hobbies were his relationships he established with people, whether dealing with them in a business sense or simply socially. He will be remembered for his kindness and caring for others as well as his sense of humor. His great joys were the activities of boating, snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, vehicles and being with his close friends and family. The encouragement and opportunities he offered to those he came in contact with was a great strength of his personality. He enjoyed having family and friends around in the summer for boating events on the lake. He especially enjoyed his Sundays on the lake with his friends.

Russ was predeceased by his mother, Mildred in 1991 and father, Robert, Jr. in 2000. He is survived by a son David R.Trafford and his wife Cheryl of New Gloucester, a brother Robert R. Goddard III and his wife Eileen of Yarmouth; a sister Janet Smith-Marconi and her husband James of Bowdoin. Also surviving are three nephews Jason, Eric, Nathaniel, one niece Suvarna, two great nephews Trent, Devon, five grandchildren Ashley, Beth , Megan, Mikayla, Gavin, one great-grandchild Janiah, and several cousins.

A celebration of Russ's life will be celebrated on Saturday December 8 at 10 a.m. at Cumberland Lodge #12 located on Route 100 in New Gloucester. Memorial donations may be made to Demolay Pine Tree Foundation, Box 69, Orrington, Maine 04474-0069. Arrangements are entrusted to Wilson Funeral Home.

Cecile A. Sanborn

Cecile Almira (Bilter) Sanborn, 74, died at her home on Friday, November 2, following a long illness.

She was born in Skowhegan on May 11, 1933, a daughter of John F. Bilter and Lena Mae (Cobb) Bilter. As a young child, she was raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., and Portland. Her family then moved to Gray, where she graduated from Pennell High School in 1951.

She joined the Air Force soon after graduation. After a short term in the military, she returned to Maine, where she worked as a waitress. She married Raymond W. Sanborn on Aug. 23, 1958, in Portland. She spent the remainder of her years as a dedicated homemaker and mother.

The couple began their lives together in Portland. They later returned to Gray, where they raised six daughters. Later in life, they also lived in Sheridan, Wyo., and Topsham. They finally settled down in Richmond in 1991

She was known for her quick wit and sense of humor. She was an accomplished cook who made holiday meals and family gatherings a source of wonderful memories. She was also a "master cribbage player" and trivia buff. She enjoyed raising exotic fowl. She will be remembered as a strong, proud and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Surviving are her husband; six daughters, Sheril Lillard, Kaye Bouchard, Cynthia Sanborn, Lori Woods, Cecile Greenman, and Rae Hoskins; 13 grandchildren, Joseph, Bethany, Sarah, John, Israel, Kendra, Bridget, Dylan, Ryan, Joshua, Blaine, Shelby and Bradley; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two infant sons, Michael Sanborn and John Sanborn; and an infant grandson, Willie.
