Library Launches Annual Appeal

Lynn D. Olson, President, Gray Public Library Association

This past month, the Gray Public Library Association began to distribute our new brochure that describes our status as a not-for-profit organization and the purposes for our formation, as well as the wide range of activities that we support. Clearly the GPLA makes up the difference between what the town can provide to the library and what the townspeople need from the library.

This year the main focus of the GPLA 2007 Annual Appeal will be to supplement an under-funded item in the collection - audio books. These items are most popular for commuters and vacationing families and also work to supplement the large-print collection for the visually impaired. Each audio book costs on average $100, with prices ranging from $70 up to $125 and more, so it will be quite a task to build this collection further.

In 2006, the Library's Patrons, Friends and Neighbors came through generously during the annual campaign. This year we are cordially inviting you to help continue making these dreams come true for so many of our patrons. Your gift of $25, $50, $100 or more can make it possible for the library to continue to meet a sometimes overwhelming and growing demand for resources and services. You can ensure that the special events that are held annually such as the summer reading program, the visiting author series, and the Gingerbread and Fairy house events that all citizens young and old enjoy will continue into the future. As an independent not-for-profit organization, we use your gift (tax deductible to the full extent of the law) where it will do the most good - and because we're all volunteers, every penny goes directly to benefit the library.

If you have supported us in the past, we are hopeful that you will respond generously when you receive the appeal letter. If you haven't fully understood the community impact of the library, we welcome you to join us now. Please put your gift in today's mail to the GPLA, P.O. Box 1345, Gray, ME 04039-1345, or make a donation online at www.GPLAofME.org. I promise it will be used thoughtfully and effectively. Thank you so much!
