Good Shepherd
Natalie Blake
Who would have thought a can of classic Coke could be used to illustrate that Jesus is the real thing! Well, someone who is never without a can of Coke in her hand might and did this past Sunday. You see, Rev. Merrill and his wife had a family emergency which necessitated a trip to Farmington on Saturday and a return in the wee hours, so our Deacon, Andrea Harvey, who is the one never without a can of Coke, was drafted for the service. Andrea talked about how we view Jesus and used the variations of Coke that have been and are currently being produced. The point being, like classic Coke, the Jesus that lived, died and was resurrected is the real thing, not the lukewarm imitations that pop up. Did make us think and shook up some of our notions about Jesus - in the same way that Jesus tried to shake up the people of his time. Thanks Andrea for being there for us.Many thanks also go to the choir along with Doug Kerr on guitar for the introductory and well harmonized anthem, "Sanctuary", during the lighting of the candles. And to Allyson Sample for her lovely solo during the special music time. It seems hard for me sometimes, to realize how some of our 'used to be" kids have grown into such talented youth. We are definitely blessed. Tomorrow you will have the chance to come, browse and buy at our annual Craft and Bake Sale. that's right, tomorrow, December 1, from 9 to 2 our tables will be full and our baked goodies just waiting to tempt you. You will also get a chance to sample the Cookie Walk and bid on items from our Silent auction table. Then you are invited to sit, have lunch, talk with your friends while you reconsider your next Silent Auction bid. Doesn't that sound like a good morning's worth of fun? Good Shepherd is an active participant in the Caring community group which is working to assure that no one goes without during this Holiday Season. Forms can be picked up at the Library, Town Hall and the Fire/Safety building. When completed, you can return them to the lock boxes at the Library and Town Hall. If you are not able to pick up a form, just pick up a phone and call one of these numbers: Donna 657-4795, Andrea 329-8188, Coky 926-4351. If you would like to donate such items as cash or would like to adopt a family, please give any one of our phone coordinators a call. You are invited to join us in learning how to develop our relationships with God. It is not important where you are in that relationship or if you have ever been to a United Methodist church before. Advent is a great time to renew acquaintance and begin a new one. Just drop in any Sunday at 10 a.m. and you will find a friendly face to talk to and we will always have a seat for you. Blessings. |
