Midge Vreeland, Vice President of Vreeland Marketing & Design in Yarmouth, has been named board president for the Spannocchia Foundation. She has been a board member since 2002, when the organization was formally established. Midge succeeds Sam Van Dam, a Portland, Maine architect, as president.

The Spannocchia Foundation, based in Portland, is a member-supported organization dedicated to encouraging global dialogue about sustaining cultural landscapes for future generations.

To accomplish its goal, the foundation supports Castello di Spannocchia, an educational center located near Siena, Italy. The Castello is located at an organic farm where visitors can experience sustainability practices and Italian cultural traditions first-hand. Vreeland has been a frequent visitor to the Castello, and looks forward to bringing fresh ideas to the Spannocchia Foundation. Spannocchia was named one of Travel & Leisure' Vreelands "15 Favorite Green Hotels" in the magazine's November 2007 issue.
