NG Fire Station Gets One Step Closer
Jackie Rybeck
The New Gloucester Selectmen met last Thursday to decide on a team to build the proposed Fire Station. A motion was made by Steve Libby to award the project to Bunker, Savage and Zachau Construction pending voter approval of the funding. The amount for the station has been capped at $2,300,000 including construction costs for a 5-bay Fire and Rescue building, a contingency fund, miscellaneous financing costs and set-up costs (such as furniture and a phone system.) Bunker Savage and Zachau will be receiving a letter of intent immediately. Libby also stated the importance of having a public informational meeting prior to a Special Town Meeting and asked Saaco what needs to be done before that happens. Saaco stated, "There is nothing else for us (the committee) to do now, but to present what we've done to date." All agreed, the sooner the better, due to the cold months coming and avoiding meetings, such as public presentations taking place during the holidays. The committee also directed Rosemary Kulow, Town Manager to create a time line and also requested she make suggestions on how to fund the project, be it full or partial bonding, to discuss with the citizens. A time line should be available at the next meeting of November 5. |
