At the New Gloucester Selectmen's meeting on Monday evening much discussion was on the construction (by the Maine Turnpike Authority) of the bridge on Mayall Road. The plan as it stands now would close the bridge for a length of time next spring and summer to widen the bridge to two lanes. It is causing concern for a local farm. Gillespie Farms is located near the bridge site, and if closed during the scheduled time, it would suffer "financial impact" according to Selectman Steve Libby. The board voted to have Rosemary Kulow, Town Manager, write a letter to the Turnpike Authority stating that the timeline for the project is unacceptable and to request that the Authority work with Gillespie Farm in rescheduling. In other action taken, the board decided to not fill the spot of vice chair, which is vacant due to the recent death of Wayne Cobb. |
