Miriam Bisbee
With her usual duet partner, Mike, recovering from serious surgery, Dottie Foster was our (reluctant) soloist last Sunday. Her anthems were "Holy Ground" and "How Beautiful." All we can say is, "How beautiful, Dottie, you made this holy ground!" If you missed a few faces that we usually see on Sunday, don't worry; they'll be back when the fair is over. No, they aren't down there to consume fried dough and bet on the races. They're running the Barnyard Restaurant, and the time, talent and elbow grease they expend there is their "widow's mite" or a small boy's loaves and fishes. That's why a cap and badge were on the altar along with the offering plates. There's no Church Council meeting this month; everybody's down to the Fair-grounds. Next Church Council meeting will be on October 30, at 7 p.m. There's a sign-up sheet in the Vestry for people to volunteer a meal for the Mills family who have had more bad luck on their plate lately than such faithful Christians deserve. (Did I hear someone say that a member of the family doesn't like cheese?) Come on, people, rally round; they'd do it for you in a heartbeat. The regular Thursday Morning Bible Study is back in session. We meet at the parish house at 9:30 a.m. for snacks and "gossip," settle down to Gospel from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome. We can always set up another table. |
