The committee, headed by Beth Pohl, met on Monday night at the library to assemble packets that will be given to all new homeowners. Pohl said that anywhere from 13 to 18 new families arrive in New Gloucester each year. The packets, made of cardboard boxes, appropriately stenciled with a pineapple, the traditional welcoming symbol, are full of brochures, menus, business cards, maps and pamphlets from area businesses, schools and organizations. Even the committee members were amazed at all the businesses and talents existing in New Gloucester. Pohl stated "we learned a lot, even coming to these meetings." The welcome packets will be available at the Town Office for residents new to the town. For many-year residents, the committee is in the process of typing up a list that can be passed out. |
