Three years ago, a few students wrote a letter asking why the Town of Minot had no Veteran's Memorial. The Minot Historical Society went into the fundraising mode and in three years raised over $4000 and turned a simple question into a reality. On Labor Day dozens of citizens gathered at the Town Office to dedicate the beautiful Memorial stone, which reads: "In Recognition of all the Men and Women who Served our Country in Times of War and Peace." There was an opening prayer by Frances Lodge, the American Legion Post #150 presented the colors, and Girl Scout Troop #1604 led the Pledge of Allegiance. Speakers included Don Verrill, former Selectman; James Woodman Brown, Service Commander for the Department of Maine Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War; Gary Purington, Past American Legion Post #150 Commander; and Beverly Spofford. |
