Mar 23, 2007 "Building a Better Community Through Communication" Vol 36, Number 12

Suzanne Marcy

A few weeks remain to get help with your taxes as the April deadline approaches. Marty Corey is happy to prepare your tax return and e-file it for free at the library. Just give her a call at 998-3166 to set up your appointment for Thursday, March 22, 29, April 5 or 12 between 1 and 5 p.m.

The Book Groups will meet on their respective dates in April. The Friday Afternoon Mystery Book Group will meet on April 6 at 2 p.m. to discuss Thunderstruck, another intriguing book by Erik Larson. Once again the author unites the dual stories of two disparate men, one a genius and the other a killer. The genius is Guglielmo Marconi, inventor of wireless communication. The murderer is the notorious Englishman Dr. H.H. Crippen.

The Tuesday Night Book Group will meet on April 10 at 7 p.m. to discuss Sidney Poitier's The Measure of a Man. In this memoir, an Oprah Book Club selection, an American icon looks back on his celebrated life and career. Please join either or both groups and call the library if you need a copy of the book(s). In April, both groups will help to select from the list of topics in the Let's Talk About It series offered by the Maine Humanities Council. Ricker Library will present one of these outstanding programs next fall or winter and we would love your input in making the selection.

Two Needle Craft Groups meet every week at the library to chat and relax over tea while creating handmade items and sharing techniques. The groups welcome all who knit, crochet, needlepoint, embroider, etc., at all levels of expertise. The Tuesday evening "needlers" meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The Thursday afternoon crafters gather from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Both groups include grandmothers, mothers, and daughters (of course, men and boys are also welcome.) Just drop by or call the library for more information call 998-4390.

Bring your preschooler to Ricker Memorial Library for Story Time on Tuesdays, March 20, 27, April 3, 10 and 24 at 10 a.m. for stories, crafts and music with Carolyn Tanner and her husband, "Grandpa" Tanner. Story Time will not be held on April 17, the week of Poland School's Spring break. Day Care/Preschool Story Time Service, with Susie Stover, continues according to the schedule for each center in Poland. For more information on either program please call the library at 998-4390.
