GNG - Gray-New Gloucester Middle School students probably won't lose a dime despite the embezzlement of over $40,000 from an account containing funds raised by them, MSAD #15 Superintendent Victoria Burns said Monday. "Our insurance company has told us the money is covered by our policy," she said. The money, raised by various student activities including vending-machine sales and activity fees, is intended to cover such off-budget costs as defraying field trips and helping students in need.

Allyson Tarling, of Gray, has been charged with withdrawing nearly $43,000 out of the account over several years beginning in 2003. A secretary at the Middle School, she resigned in 2006.

The theft caused the District to reassess its procedures and policies, according to Superintendent Burns.
