GRAY - Help! Here's your chance to really make a difference in the lives of those affected by displacement, disaster and poverty, both here at home and around the world. The UCC Church World Service and the First Congregational Church of Gray promote projects to aid people in need. One of these projects, "Gifts of the Heart" sends Health Kits, School kits and Baby Layette kits to people in distress. You could give a whole kit, part of a kit or kits, or a check payable to the First Congregational Church of Gray and we can purchase items needed to complete the kits. Women's Fellowship purchases the diapers and provides shipping. We have been notified there is urgent need for baby and school kits.

To assemble a Baby Kit you will need:

• Six cloth diapers

• Two shirts

• Two washcloths

• Two gowns or sleepers

• Two diaper pins

• One sweater or sweatshirt

• Two receiving blankets (one can be a knitted blanket)

Wrap items inside one of the receiving blankets and secure with diaper pins. Or you may choose to give a donation of $39, which will allow Church World Service to provide a new Baby Kit for an infant in a mother and child care program. A Baby Kit provides gentle warmth for infants and basic tools for young mothers struggling with poverty, inadequate housing, or the consequences of natural disasters.

To assemble a School Kit you will need:

• One pair of blunt scissors

• Spiral or tape-bound notebooks of ruled paper, 8-1/2" X 11" containing 140-200 sheets of paper. No filler paper, please.

• One 12" ruler (30-centimeter)

• One pencil sharpener

• Six new pencils with erasers

• One large eraser

• Twelve sheets of colored construction paper

• One box of 24 crayons

• One 12" x 14" finished size, cloth bag with cloth handles and a closure (Velcro, snap, or button)

Pack these items in the cloth bag and secure contents with the closure. Or, if you prefer, a donation of $13 per Kit will allow Church World Service to buy school supplies for use in classroom settings. School Kits give children in impoverished schools, refugee camps, or other difficult settings some of the basic tools for learning.

Please contribute whatever you can, but, please, only those items listed.

To assemble a Health Kit you will need:

• One hand towel

• One washcloth

• One comb

• One metal nail file or nail clipper with file

• One bar of soap (bath size in wrapper)

• One toothbrush (in original packaging)

• One tube of toothpaste (4-7 ounces)

• Six Band-Aids

Seal all items in a one-gallon plastic bag with a zipper closure. Or, if you prefer, a donation of $12 will allow Church World Service to provide a Health Kit. Health Kits in the face of natural disasters, violence, or grinding poverty, can mean the difference between sickness and health for struggling families.

Items may be dropped at the First Congregational Church Parish House Tuesday or Thursday 9 to 11 a.m., or bring to Sunday Worship at the church. For more information, call Kathy 653-0454. The campaign ends April 22. Thank you.
