GRAY - The Gray Public Library Association (GPLA) is working to assist the Gray Public Library in recruiting volunteers to help out our library staff. Volunteers can participate in any manner that meets their personal preferences and time commitments. Some tasks may take less than hour and some may span several days. Some tasks allow volunteers to work on their own while others allow for more interaction with library staff and patrons. There are many ways you can help.

The GPLA sponsors a Used Book Sale twice each year and all proceeds go to improving the Gray Public Library. Our spring sale is scheduled for Saturday, April 28. GPLA Volunteers are needed to organize, sort and shelf the numerous books donated by generous Library patrons. Volunteers can work afternoons and evenings during the week and during the day on Saturdays. A schedule will be available at the Library for those who are interested in helping out. Volunteers are also needed for other Book Sale tasks, including publicity, placing signs prior to the sale, and helping on the day of the sale itself - assisting patrons, book counting for check out, providing snacks or drinks for volunteers, etc.

The GPLA provides refreshments at the library every Saturday morning. We are looking for volunteers to assist with this function, including purchasing supplies and setting up the refreshments each week. Helping out even one Saturday a month would be most appreciated.

The Gray Public Library Association provides assistance with many of the special events that are offered by the library. Volunteers are always needed with children's programs, which are always lots of fun! When you see an event publicized, give the library a call at 657-4110 to see how you can help out.

Many events sponsored by the GPLA would benefit from having a Volunteer Event Coordinator. The volunteer would select the venue and organize the details of the event, coordinate publicity, greet the speaker (and have lunch with him/her and the Library staff) and generally help to ensure the success of the event.

GPLA volunteers are also working on an Authors' Quilt which will be made up of squares signed by prominent authors. Volunteers are currently working to piece together the signed squares. The completed quilt will be auctioned off as a fundraising event for the Gray Public Library. If you have quilting experience and would like to volunteer your time, please let us know.

To learn more about becoming a volunteer for the Gray Public Library, you can stop by or call the library during normal business hours, visit the GPLA web site at www.gplaofme.org, contact any GPLA board member (Board@GPLAofME.org) or submit information under our web site's volunteer tab. We guarantee your efforts will be warmly received and greatly appreciated. In addition, you'll get an opportunity to meet many wonderful people and start some lasting friendships! Please give the library a call or drop us a line. We look forward to speaking with you!
