AUBURN - This young trio will be participating in Lewiston/Auburn Community Little Theatre's "Godspell" production on March 9-18 at Great Falls Performing Arts Center, 30 Academy Street. Haydn Deal of Cornish, guitarist; Sam Bagala of Gray, pianist; and Marcus Bagala of Gray, who has the lead role of Jesus in the popular rock musical. The show is crammed with energy, music, song and dance based on the Gospel of St. Matthew and transposed into a contemporary urban setting, with music and new lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and book by John-Michael Tebelak. The young men are home schooled and keep busy with many extracurricular activities involving theater and music. All three have appeared in other musicals, both onstage and backstage. Marcus also participates in the early studies program at USM, focusing on music.

The three appear in a band The Shams which has performed at The Station and The Big Easy in Portland and also at the Windham VFW. The Shams has achieved the finalist position for the past two years straight in the ROCK ON competition of Maine. The band is an integral part of the play with the completing member, Sky Critchfield of Casco on drums. Britnee Ward of Lewiston also appears as bass guitarist for the show.

James Kramlich of West Gray has the dual roles of John the Baptist and Judas in the play. He is a graduate of Gray-New Gloucester High School and has also been involved in theater and music.

Godspell, directed by Colleen Mahan, has a homeless setting with the set depicting a homeless shelter in a back alley and a Mission next to a loading dock. Many will recognize the beloved songs from the show which have become part of America's musical scene: Day By Day, the international hit, and Save the People, Bless the Lord, Learn Your Lessons Well and Turn Back, O Man.

Advance tickets are $15 and $13 for seniors and full time students and may be reserved by calling 783-0958 or accessing the theatre's website at www.laCLT.com.
