The Talk of Gray
Sharon Bondroff
Hill Road. The Gray Independent News asked a few people what they thought of the idea.) "It's not horrible. It will bring jobs and revenue, but this is not the best way to do it. It will suffocate local business. Traffic is already a problem. There are other Hannaford's in nearby towns. It doesn't make a lot of sense. Maybe a different location would be better." Kevin Anderson Yarmouth Road "Great! We need something closer, and to offer our town more jobs. It's good for the community. I own Nails Gone Wild in Gray Plaza. [Having other businesses nearby] creates more business. Competition makes things better for us." Charity Hatch Blueberry Lane "I could care less. If they do it without creating traffic problems, and if it employs more people, it's fine. I would not want it in my backyard. I go to the Hannaford at [former Turnpike] Exit 10." Richard LeClerc Lewiston Road "Malarkey. It will push the moms-and-pops out. What about landowners whose land has been in the family forever. Why should they be pushed out? Do we really need a Wal-Mart, Shaw's and Hannaford in every town? If we have a Wal-Mart on every corner, we're detracting from the attraction of coming to [Maine]." Brent Bartlett Crystal Lake "Good idea. Personally, it's convenient. It will cause a bit of congestion. But it's also a good location. Unfortunately it will take business away from the local market, but I think it's a good idea. It will bring a lot of jobs to Gray, and more opportunity."
