Dec 22, 2006 "Building a Better Community Through Communication" Vol 35, Number 48

Ray Clark

You may not have noticed, but 104 new houses were built in Gray last Saturday morning.

The architects and contractors on the project were 104 children, and the building site was the Gray Public Library.

The occasion was the annual Gingerbread-House party. And the materials were graham crackers and lots and lots of white royal icing. Fourteen pounds of confectioners' sugar worth of royal icing, in fact.

Some of that icing found its way into the mouths of babes, it's true. But much of it turned into colorful mansions.

The Library staff-Kathy George, Library Director Tracie Lammers, Marie Morey, Brooke Palmer and Liz Gill, with help from Bobbie Clark-kept some semblance of order at the construction site; several parents and grandparents acted as supervisors.
