Perhaps the lack of compassion which animals (and, all too often, human beings) show to a weak or crippled member of their species serves the evolutionary purpose of survival and reproduction of the fittest. You have to remember that animals are ruled by instinct rather than morality, but it's a little hard to take when you've grown fond of all the parties involved.

Just a few more days to visit the Park before it closes to the public for the winter. November 11, traditional Veterans' Day, will be the last day this year, and U.S. veterans can visit the Park free that day.
