Oct 13, 2006 "Building a Better Community Through Communication" Vol 35, Number 39

Miriam Bisbee
At the last report, our injured bobcat had returned to the Park and was ensconced in a secure pen in the Ted Morse Building. She is reported to be healing and is eating well, an especially good sign in an injured animal. I peeked at her last Friday as she rested in her "den" (a cozy cat carrier). She responded to my gentle words with a soft rumble which I prefer to believe was a friendly purr and not a hostile growl.

Don't forget to get in the spirit of Halloween early by coming on the Night Hike on Friday the thirteenth, 6 to 9 P.M. The regular admission fee gets you in to enjoy the special exhibits, costume contest, haunted trail walk and all the rest. Then on the 14th there'll be a live 2-hour remote broadcast by the on-air personalities of WHOM, Northern New England's Superstation.

These crisp and colorful October days are a great time for grandparents and their preschool grandkids to enjoy the Park at their own leisurely pace. Besides the animals behind the wire, you'll see red and gray squirrels harvesting acorns and pine cones, with chipmunks skittering practically underfoot. They're so bold you might think you could catch them, but don't even try; they move like greased lightning!

November 1, Veterans' Day, will be the last day the Park is open for visitors this season. If you are a United States veteran of the armed forces you get free admission that day as a small thank-you for your service.
