Oct 13, 2006 "Building a Better Community Through Communication" Vol 35, Number 39

Liz Chandler
Have you noticed that Christmas items are on display in the stores alongside Halloween decorations? When I was a young child, Christmas decorations and gifts were not available until the day after Thanksgiving. Don't take me wrong; I enjoy the holidays and observe each with what I hope is the proper attitude. Christmas before Halloween disturbs me.

Our Community Collection Weekend for the month of October is scheduled for October 28-29. We will be offering assistance with canned or boxed meals along with soups, stews, chili and macaroni and cheese. Next month, we will be collecting for the Thanksgiving baskets. Let's all make a determined effort to help our brothers and sisters who are in need.

If you are aware of someone who would benefit from a Thanksgiving basket, please notify Msgr. Lavoie. Don't be afraid of reaching out to someone who has a need for food. Many budgets are stretched tightly and might not be able to provide for the holiday.

Each Saturday at 4:00 P.M., the rosary is prayed in the church. Please feel welcome to come and participate with us as we honor our Blessed Mother. It is also a truly wonderful way to prepare to receive her Son in the Eucharist.

If you know of someone who would enjoy receiving a holiday card, please give me a call at 926-3692. If you are able to give me a name and address, I will take care of the rest. Keeping in touch with a card is a gift, especially if the recipient is alone and feels that no one cares.

Religious Education classes have begun. The children will receive formal instruction with teachers on the first Sunday of each month. Msgr. Lavoie will meet with the parents in the parish hall while their young people attend class. Faith formation is vital for all ages but even more so with children.

Thought for the Day: You can be a glimpse of God's love to someone.

Have a really good week.
