Saturday, September 30, was a beautiful day for the Fall Used Book Sale sponsored by the Gray Public Library Association. When the doors opened at 9 A.M., there were over thirty avid book lovers waiting, and traffic was steady until the doors closed at 1 P.M. Bargains were found for all-new releases, autographed copies and other hardcover books, paperbacks and oversized trade paperbacks, magazines, records, audio books, music tapes and CDs, video tapes and CDs and collectibles. The key organizing manager, Darcel Devou, established a wonderful layout perfect for browsing and shopping. Kudos to you, Darcel! Over the last few months, steady effort to sort books, shelve them and provide other supporting details was invested by Peter Gerardo, Julie Sheets, Nancy Walkenford, June O'Donnell and Linda Hardy-thanks for hours of efforts, guys! Other volunteers giving time to get ready for and to run the sale included Dorothy Wood, Joyce Burrow, Will Burrow, Leila Reid, Deb Cabana and Mark Olson. We appreciate your assistance so very much! Carrying on the tradition begun by the Friends of the Gray Library, the GPLA is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit entity organized and operated exclusively for charitable and educational purposes. The Gray Public Library Association was formed to support the programs and activities of the Library; to assist by recruiting, training and supervising volunteers; to solicit gifts of books, money or other appropriate materials to supplement the Library budget; to raise funds for capital improvements to the Library's facilities; and to educate the public about the Gray Public Library and about libraries in general. While the Town of Gray supports the Library's operational and staff costs, the GPLA provides the extras that make our Library extra special. With the proceeds from the Book Sale, the GPLA will continue to subsidize programming and other special events at the Library. Ongoing activities supported by the GPLA include such items as subscriptions, Museum and Wildlife Park passes, the summer reading program, the Young Adult Book Club and Book Chat. Special events that the GPLA plans to sponsor for the rest of this year include Fairy Houses, Yoga and Books and the Gingerbread House events for young children; a local artist to speak at the YA Book Club and the event with author Julia Spencer Fleming. Thanks to everyone who came to the sale to shop so the GPLA is able to accomplish so much to help the Gray Public Library. We really appreciate your support! | [an error occurred while processing this directive]
