Oct 13, 2006 "Building a Better Community Through Communication" Vol 35, Number 39

Natalie Blake
I am not sure whether Fall has ever been said to either "come in like a lion or lamb" but it certainly has come upon us with lovely weather, hasn't it? In my travels to Bangor last weekend, the saving grace of traveling the Turnpike was the absolutely resplendent foliage and I remembered once again, the gifts that God gives to us every day and the joy there is to find in His creation.

Many thanks this week go to two of our youth, Maggie Topel and Allyson Sample, as they provided us with special music for the service. They sang with God's joy in their hearts and it just shone through in their singing, so thank you for sharing your gift of music with such love.

Life is picking up a pace in October as the church family reconvenes from summer occupations. Our Women's Group starts the season with a night out of food, friendship and fellowship at the Landing Restaurant in Windham, 6:30 P.M. All women are invited so come and bring your friends and neighbors-see how nice it feels to take a night off from the kitchen and get to know some new friends.

On October 20th, our morning study group begins a new book called "Blowing the Lid Off the God Box, Opening up a Limitless Faith", by Anne Robertson. We meet at 9:15 for coffee and fellowship and start the group at 9:30 with prayers followed by the discussion. Anyone in the community is invited. Just come on down and join in.

Our Lego League is having a great time as they prepare their robot to compete in 8 different challenges. They must also prepare a research presentation about the theme. They meet on Wednesday nights at the church and can always use some help as mentors, builder, programmers or nano technology specialist. Just let me know if you are interested and I will point you to the right people-or just drop on down to the church on a Wednesday night.

Choir is in the midst of preparing for this year's Choir Festival on October 2 at, 3 P.M. at Clark Memorial in Portland. Each choir presents two numbers and then all six choirs join in a massed choir for the final two numbers. Our own choir director, Jody Bagley, is the director of the massed choir this year and has chosen two great pieces. It is an afternoon of wonderful, soul-lifting music that you don't want to miss. Admission is free with a Love offering taken. There will be a time of fellowship after the concert hosted by Clark Memorial. All are invited.

Have you found a church home? Are you searching for a place that is friendly and welcoming? Where you can deepen your relationship to God and learn more about why we are here in this world? I would like to invite you to Good Shepherd on a Sunday morning at 10 am to check us out and get to know us. We will save a seat for you! Blessings.
