Thefts in Gray raise public concerns

Staff

A series of robberies and breakins in Gray has some people worried about increasing crime.

During a recent M.S.A.D. 15 Board of Directors meeting, at least two cars were broken into and purses were stolen. The next day, a home on Cambell Shore Road was robbed.

A robbery at Newbegin and another at the Gray Public Library just a few weeks ago have not been solved.

The breakins raise the question of whether Gray needs police protection beyond what the Sheriff and State Police can provide. The issue was brought up during Peter Gerardo's term as Town Council Chair, and has been discussed again this year.

Town Manager Peter Jankowski has suggested that the Town could start with one officer and expand later, if necessary.
